Given the projected continued growth of urbanization in the world and increasing demand for modern and technologic life, pressure on cities and their historic center will continue to mount. Therefore, cities are increasingly demanding that planning and design must take history, culture and meaning into account. Consequently, the rapidly changing face of urban life and basic conditions of modern time pose a big challenge on the management of historic urban areas, which can no longer be handled by traditional policies. The imbalance of progress and the preservation of the historic center often results in either stagnancy or the loss of cultural heritage values and with it the loss of identity.

In this paper intention is to analyze diverse challenges and contradictions regarding integration of contemporary urban life to historic center of city in Iran.
